The Route

road

The only notable attempt at the Cross Continent Challenge was completed by James Cracknell in aid of Sport Relief. The route that the team will be taking is the same as that that James completed successfully in a 10 day period.

The team will leave home in the UK and will cycle from London to Portsmouth where they will cross over into France. On arrival in France, the team will be on their bikes for a 1400 mile (2400km) ride through France and Spain to Europe's most southerly point.

The route will take the team past Rouen, Le Mans, and Bordeaux and across the Spanish border into San Sebastian. From there the team will climb up through Navarra, past Madrid and on down through Andalucia and finally to the Straits of Gibraltar and their final stop in Europe - Isla de Tarifa.

The boys will be cycling between 14 to 18 hours a day, with rests scheduled to build up their strength in food breaks as well as to re-hydrate themselves. This will be a steady pace that should see them cycling between 100 and 180 miles per day. Avoiding any problems and adverse weather conditions, the team expect to arrive in Africa within 2 weeks.
