Stationary
For children in Africa, the difference of a pencil can mean the difference between attending school and not.
In 2006, the MHPF agreed to remove the cost of stationary at Memusi School. The school had 5 children and was struggling under the cost that they had to pay for stationary. 1 pencil was costing $1. This cost had taken the school to the point of closure. Taking that cost away from the schools is vital in helping the school to develop.
In support of education in Africa, you can help in a number of ways:
1. If you are an individual and would like to send stationary to one of our schools, please get in touch. We would be delighted to discuss how you can help and one what level. The key benefit to people that have previously been part of this venture is that you will see your stationary a week later in the hands of the children that you send them to. The schools will ensure that photographs are returned to you of the children with the equipment.
2. If you are a school or organisation, why not hold a stationary collection? A number of our supporters have collected stationary and distributed to our schools. This can be new equipment that people can buy and donate. This can also be old equipment that still has life in it. Pencils that have been sharpened to halve their original length or pens that were given free at the latest conference would all be welcome gifts to the children and the MHPF schools.
Books
Quality books are difficult to buy in the remote areas of Africa. In too many cases, the cost of the books are too expensive. You can help with books in the following ways:
1. Are you a school that has books that you no longer need. Are you struggling to know what to do with those books? As long as the books are of adequate condition, they will be valued at MHPF schools.
2. Are you an individual whose children have grown up and no longer want the books for younger children? Why not send those books to children at the MHPF schools who will treasure those books.
Books are such a vital material in aiding learning. MHPF are aiming to equipe all of its schools with a library that will benefit the schools for years to come. Please help MHPF create that library.
Can You Help?
Please do what you can. What costs so little to the majority of us is a cost that is too much for others. What you may see as your waste will be the treasure of someone else. Before you throw it away, think - does that item still have some life in it? If so, donate it to people who will treasure it.
