Pencils

For many children in Africa, the difference between going to school and not going can be something as small as a pencil. Although education is free in many countries in Africa, it is only free if the children can actually get to school, if they have a uniform and as long as they have a pencil. For parents living in extreme poverty, the cost of pencil can often be too much. Therefore, MHPF are trying to reach out to as many schools and children as possible by supplying stationary to them.

Stationary is something that we take for granted in the Western world. Consider how many pens and pencils you have cluttering your drawers at home and at work and ask yourself, do you need them all? Why not donate an item of stationary to MHPF and make a difference to someones life?

Please help us to reach out to children all over Africa. If you are able to help and would like to donate stationary to children in Africa, please contact MHPF through the Contact form on this website.

London Collection

Jay PatelJay Patel has recently visited Kenya and was impacted by the need of children and the need for their education. On returning, he contacted MHPF to ask if he could get involved with the Foundation in making a difference to peoples lives. We are thrilled that Jit is carrying out a stationary drive in London and the items collected will be donated directly to the people who desperately need it.

CollectionJay will be carrying out a collection in the first 2 weeks of November and the items will be shipped to schools before the start of December. If you donated stationary, please continue to revisit this page from the end of December 2009 to see pictures of the children who have benefitted from your donation.

In February 2010, the items collected by Jay and his community arrived in Magadi. The children of Memusi School are thrilled to receive such a wonderful gift and asked to pass on their thanks to Jay Patel, his family and all the friends that contributed to making this happen.

MHPF are thrilled at the success of Jay Patels collection and welcome him as part of the team. Jay has made a tremendous difference to other peoples lives and the whole Memusi and MHPF community are extremely humbled by the giving of so many in Jays own community.

Australia Collection

Susanna Hem saw a problem and looked for a way to resolve it. In Australia, annual fees are paid for Education and children receive a large box of stationary that doesnt all get used throughout the year. With exercise books half used and basic stationary supplies in great condition, Susanna wanted to ensure that people are doing something valuable with their 'leftover' items before new stock in the next school year.

Susanna contacted MHPF and has been working with Matthew Norton to develop an approach in which items could be sent directly from Australia to support education in Kenya. As a trial Susanna packaged some items from her own children and the items were distrubuted in February 2010 and have arrived with a delighted community in Narok - Nissi School. The pictures of the items in the hands of the children at Nissi School show the difference that has been made.

The next step is to close the gap on the overload of items in Australian education and distribute these to schools in Africa. Watch this space!
